Overview
GlanceFrench ("the app", "we", "our") is an iOS vocabulary app. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how it is handled. We have designed the app to collect as little personal data as possible.
Data we collect
Locally on your device. GlanceFrench stores your preferences (refresh interval, notification time, selected difficulty), your word history, and your saved words entirely on your device using SwiftData and an App Group shared container. This data never leaves your device unless you back up your device to iCloud under your own Apple ID.
In-app purchases. Subscription purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive, see, or store your payment information. Your entitlement status is verified locally using the App Store receipt on your device — no external service is involved.
Data we do not collect
- Your name, email address, or any account credentials
- Your location
- Your contacts, calendar, or any other device data
- Advertising identifiers (IDFA)
- Any data from third-party sources
Third-party services
GlanceFrench has no backend, no account system, and no external analytics service. The app makes no network requests of its own.
Apple App Store. All payments and subscription management are handled by Apple. Apple's privacy policy applies to those transactions.
Notifications
If you grant notification permission, GlanceFrench schedules local notifications on your device. These notifications are generated locally — no data is sent to any server to produce them.
Children
GlanceFrench is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.
Data retention and deletion
All data (history, saved words, preferences) is stored only on your device and can be deleted at any time by uninstalling the app. There is no server-side data to delete — we hold nothing about you.
Changes to this policy
If we materially change how data is handled, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify users in-app.
